    quick overnight (Red River Gorge)

Not much of a trip, but when your wife let's you abandon the family, you go even if it is less than 24 hours.

Probably one of the best places I have hung a hammock (except for the late night visitors)

With an awesome view of the stars

all in all, a great way to spend 20 hours

My daughter wants us to to there for a weekend . . . sounds like we'll be planning an October trip. Stunning pictures, especially the sky. Thanks for sharing!

One of my favorite places for an overnight. Was there water at Counsel Bluffs? Nice pics on your blog. Hard to believe guys were wandering around the Staircase at night, go figure. Thanks for the report.

Pretty nice! Still haven't gotten down there. The permit thing always throws me off. I know it's not a big deal to stop and pick one up, but I don't like having to be on a clock. Plus it irritates the cheap/lazy person in me.

Edit - scratch that. I keep forgetting you can get them online! So, one of these days...

I think I would rather had bears vs. idiots in the middle of the night

The camera is a Nikon 5100, I use a Joby GorillaPod (the SLR version) for a tripod.

Water at Counsel Bluffs if you mean the rock house at the head of the valley where Sargent Branch starts, then no, it was basically a mud pit. Sargent Branch had plenty of water where the Sheltowee Trace crosses it.

The permits are a little annoying, but this time I bought two 1-night permits so I have an extra in the glovebox for next time. I was not aware you can buy them online, but the shipping is $5 for two 1 night permits, easier to stop just off the Mountain Parkway on the way in.

    Glad everyone liked the pics.
