Okay, just pulled the trigger on a Jacks R Better Mt Washington 3 underquilt and a Sierra Sniveler underquilt. That should keep me nice and toasty for the MD/PA winters. Thanks for your input, everybody!
Someday this will all make sense...

Those should do it. While you are waiting for the UPS truck if you haven't checked out Shug's how make all this hammock kit work together give them a look.

Don't forget we all love to look at pictures when new gear comes in :-)

As a fellow MD'er, I'll pile on to the 10 Deg buffer. That seems to work well around here. It is pretty common to be a bit cooler than any of closest weather stations.
    enjoy the trip.

I hiked the state of Maryland a couple of years ago in October and definitely remember that the nights got chillier than I expected.

Plus, temperatures can differ quite a bit with terrain.

Also, I would recommend an untreated ripstop underquilt protector for inclement weather. My 2QZQ protector always goes with me if the weather looks to be misty/drizzly/moist.
The ground is hard, and full of rocks...

Wow I just found a fellow hammocker/guitarist with a lot (not too much) of gear!!! I would also second the upgrade advice. Temp ratings on the AT are sketchy at best due to the elevation changes etc... My first trip in the smokies projected low 50s and 1 night was near 30 and I was scary miserable/shivering....not good. I assume like me, you don't bring your Les Pauls camping
