    Kammok- New Product- Kickstarter 09/27/16

I got an email from Kammok, a hammock maker.

It looks like they are launching a new product in the hammock/tent hybrid crossover market we have been seeing a lot of. They only have a sneak peak video (linked below) but the drawing seems to be something similar to the active kickstarter (another thread already started on this) for a hybrid tent/hammock that is full enclosed with waterproof shell.

Interesting concept. Any thoughts on this?

I can't make any judgements on it until I see more of it but it has my interest.

Could also be a winter tarp with doors? Just have to wait and find out...

It's definitely a tent with hanging capabilities. Watch the teaser and look at the design's. Kammok has been doing some innovative stuff. The Khuli is an example! 20 oz tarp with sixteen tie out reinforced with stitched grommets and hypalon. No one has done that before.

Watched the teaser yesterday myself; seemed like a waste of a video - no clear idea of what it is.

Did you guys/gals watch the same teaser I did? The tent is cat cut (like a ton of hammock tarps) and it has long suspension lines. The lines from the ridge are going up (like to a tree). I mean I may be wrong, but it looks exactly like a hammock company trying to innovate a hammock shelter that can go to the ground when there are no trees.

In the teaser the product is shown with tent poles crossing each other. Just like a tent suspension. I would say this could be a winter tarp, but they just released a tarp called the Khuli. They market a mode called "Storm Mode" in which the tarp pitches with doors. Exactly what you are talking about. I actually have one of these in hand and it's pretty nice. Look for a quick post later.

I dont like kickstarter, its just a way of grabbing money, when investors feel that its not worth investing in but thats just a personal thought.

But on this one just looks like a tarp, that can also be a free standing tent on the ground.

So its either going to be a very heavy tarp, or a poor tent that wont stand up to weather.

I cant think of a single time when going hammock i needed to be on the ground. Or when in a tent thinking i need to be swinging

I think it might be trying to solve a problem that doesnt exist.

Also there are some hammocks that can also go to ground as a bivvi.

I can't wait to see what they offer. I've hung in one of these and they seem very very well made. I look forward to see what they offer next.

I don't like Kickstarter either, far too many scams being run and Kickstarter refuse to do anything about it as long as they get their cut.

As for Kammok, they've already done a very heavy tarp with the Glider so I doubt it's that. I think it may be a tent. Yes they started with a hammock but they've also done the tarp and sleeping bag/bivy so a tent would allow them to target those who prefer/insist on tents which is still a bigger market than hammocks.

Whatever it is you can be sure it'll be delivered late, have no instructions included and a have a decent chance of missing parts which you'll likely never get no matter how many times you ask.
