    New Idea of Costo UQ

UQ.jpgUq1.jpgUQ loft.jpgAs we all know when they make the Costco throws the down is injected into it and then sewn trapping a lot of the down and not allowing it to expand. When I made my TQ I cut a off a portion after opening up the baffles and consolidating the down. But I discovered there was still a large amount of down trapped in the remaining seams (enough to stuff the end cap).
So when I decided to make my UQ I went a different route. I removed all the baffles. I narrowed it to 45". I then pushed the down to the other end and sewed 5-9" baffles half way. I then pushed the down into those baffles and finished sewing them to the other end.
There was a bit of a issue with keeping the two halves lined up as thin and slick as it is, but it wasn't bad enough for me to rip the seams again... lol. Here are a few pics. Still have to put the shock cord in the channels but all in all I am happy with it.
Will be a bit before I can field test it for warmth here in OK tho.UQ.jpgUq1.jpgUQ loft.jpg

Even without baffles and a lot of shaking, the down is pretty sticky. And putting them in the dryer seems to ramp up the static electricity.

When you "pushed it down to the other end", how did you do it without making a mess?

Quilts look good! I've got a ridgerunner so I don't have to worry about shock cord channels.

Once i removed the channels I just pulled the sides apart and shook it as best I could. Your right tho, there was still some left in the pieces I cut off of the sides but it wasn't to bad.
