Swaying when another moves is something that will be expected. It is only natural when the two are connected but when she moves in bed I also feel it so nothing big. We have found that the head end alone works fine but some would prefer both ends were separated. The Dutch thing is something that I was looking at too and decided that this would fit my needs a little better. Almost purchased Dutch's stuff though. The bar that I am using is adjustable and we still are working on the spacing. Fine tuning so to speak.

So far what is the minimum you have gone withe the speader bar? Then how cozy does it get? Curious before I try to get sizing of lengths to start with? I.e. 27" is touching a little, and 15" is not even worth it... 48" is too much all together... Just looking for your rough thoughts...

Haven't done the measurements, as hiking pole is continuously adjustable.
But it is worth noting you can use a shorter pole when you offset the hammocks a bit vertically, they don't need to be level with each other. Putting one, even just 6", lower will give you more space.

The Dutch bar is 36" and that is perfect for my wife and I. Also, if you both have the same lay (i.e. left or right) that helps. My wife and I both lay head left and feet right. If not make sure you choose the side that will let your head be on the outside of your setup as you hang.

So, I have been looking for a method that would work. Now I like thing simple, inexpensive and that work well. So, I designed a set up that is so simple and can easily be left right on the hammocks and will work as a spreader as well as a place to hang items when not used as a spreader.

I took 2 pieces of 1" grosgrain cut lengths between 3 and 4 inches long. one for each hammock. Double them over and, using a grommet set purchased from Harbor Freight , I punched matching holes in both sides of the grosgrain. Then I insert the grommet and secure with a hammer. Now take this and slide it over the rope or whatever is used at the gathered end of the hammock suspension. If you are unable to slide this over it just put it on the line then secure the grommet in place. I then found a bar for the separator and insert pins at the end. I had some old left over supports from and old dinner tarp setup that was lying around so I used the adjustable portions and made it an adjustable bar. A dowel or stick with a screw or nail will do. Even a whittled down branch will work. The nice thing is the grosgrain and grommet can be used as a hanger when not used with a second hammock. Now we usually car camp or hike in a mile or two so weight is not an issue.

Very nice. The only thing I would recommend are rubber bumpers on the ends of your spreader bar. This will help prevent you from damaging your tarp.

Here is the my dutch set up if you're interested.

Good idea. I have some vacuum port plugs in the garage that will do the job. Had not thought of that but glad you suggested it. Thanks...

i thought i'd add to the discussion and show how we do it. the only thing i added was the spreader bar and cord locks. it's a lot sturdier than it looks, and i can't imagine the spreader bar coming loose at all from the yellow continuous loop because of the compression forces involved.

Two hammocks - One set of trees.

Nice! I'm trying to get my wife to transfer to a hammock. This is great!
