The nylon strap broke right above the marlinspike hitch. I think the strap was just old, and may have been stressed. I tested the new setup out and adjusted it so the next time I fall it will only be 8 inches instead of 18!

I am thankful my dog chose NOT to sleep underneath me last night, as she sometimes does.

I re-hung it using some nylon that was triple the width and test rating.....If that doesn't work, I may have to pry open the vise-grip clamps on my wallet and buy an actual hammock suspension system
Glad you were not hurt it sounds like. But this big reason I think suspension is not the place to save $$$ on. Look at the cost for a Vet Visit if you dog would have been under you. Then think about copays and lost work from ER or worse injury. Amsteel and Kevlar are cheap when taken on a what if comparison for pricing.

Some folks start a new hobby and feel they have to buy every single gizmo and accessory available. Others buy the essentials, and see if they like it first.

Funny you mention Amsteel.....that's what cut through the nylon strap!!!! Some strong stuff there, huh?

Just remember, even the best straps won't fix stupidity. Spent Sunday evening in the ER getting a CT scan of my head and neck. Why? Overshot the man cave hammock while sitting into it. Went backwards right over it. My head broke my fall. Oh and yes, directly onto the concrete floor.

Hematoma like a baseball and moderate concussion.

    Be careful folks.

One more thing....willing to bet my head went "THUNK" but pretty sure I blacked out before the sound registered.

Thanks. Back of my head is still a bit tender but headache is largely gone. CT was clear...thankfully.

Geez you guys! A great reminder. I always look up for widow makers but I'll start lowering my hang a bit. I was looking for a good sleep, not a full contact sport!

Glad you are no worse for wear. I am usually solo so I hang closer to the ground just to be on the safe side.
