Because I'm "that guy" who forgot to close the lid on my Thule Rocket Box. Somewhere along the highway my Ridgerunner and the tarp that was binered to it decided to take a trip of their own. I did hear a small thump but passed it off as rock or something from the tires. Never again.Someone received a pretty sweet little gift. Hope they actually use it.

This sucks I'm sorry to hear that. I left my phone on the side of my trailer yesterday and drove off. After I got about 10 miles away I realized I didn't have it and what I had done. I turned around and began the slow drive back looking at the road. When I got to my street I was looking and almost in a panic, when my neighbor walks out and ask me if I had lost my phone. I was so relieved that it wasn't damaged or gone for good. I could only imagine if I lost my hammock equipment the same way.
Thanks for the PSA....I've got the Sears knockoff version of that roof box. My last trip I still put my important gear in a big drybag before it went on the roof. I guess I'll keep that practice going although that's going to be a huge loss if all my sleep gear tumbles out onto the road.
My condolences and congratulations.
I find I'm usually more mad at myself than disappointed at the value of the loss.
