A new twist on DIY ... Thread injector upgrade!

So I've been using this old singer I found in the attic which is at least from sometime in the 1970's and the spool holder just wasn't working correctly for the more modern spools. They would wobble and sometimes fall off when loading the bobbin up so I had to come up with something (spool holder diameter and height were way too small). Few measurements with the calipers and a few minutes designing the part in Solidworks and I think I have fixed my problem. Another hour or so on the 3D printer and I think we have a winner! I have no idea if singer ever made such an adapter but it doesn't matter ... All DIY

    Nice!

I'm currently waiting on my first RSBTR order, including one of those big spools of Mara thread, and am worried about how it will fit on my old Singer... you could probably sell adapters for a few bucks if you were so inclined.

I used a spool that I found in the huge cabinet of old sewing stuff my wife's mother gave her so I'm not sure if this will fit the Mara spool. I am waiting on an order as well from RSBTR so if this doesn't fit it will quickly be adjusted and reprinted to fit those spools. If you have an issue let me know and I can send one out to you if you'll cover the shipping once I know it'll work perfectly.

If you do want one customized let me know too. All i'll need to know is the height and diameter of the factory spool holder as well as the height and diameter of the spool you want to fit. The dimensions I used were 35mm for the bottom base x 1.5mm thick, larger roll ID was 15mm wide x 70mm tall and the hole to fit the factory spool holder is 42mm tall x 5.5mm wide. I was also thinking of extending the height and adding a pressure fit or screw on cap but I don't think it will move up/down very much. I also don't think the height of the adapter will matter much since it seems to be the wobble due to the small diameter of the factory spool holder post that was causing the issue.

Nice. I don't have a 3D printer so just got some dowel that fit snuggly within the thread spool and then drilled a hole to fit on the sewing machine spool pin.

Yup, I was going to post that. I have a horizontal spool rod. I put a bobbing on the rod and a small rubber band wrapped tight around the rod to keep the bobbin in place. Now the spool can spin or the thread can slide off from around the spool no problem.

I use my spool the same way you have in picture #2 . Let us know if you are selling them.
