So far, we have the following. Any thoughts about where? Mohican is easy, Zaleski is a bit of a hike in, Hocking can be crowded. Of course, we are completely open to other sites.

I'm back from my 14 days hammock camping the last weekend of July through mid August and it was HOT! But I'll be looking to get out again in September for sure. I will try to get my up coming Calendar figured out and post as soon as I know, I don't think that I have much set but a few things are pending.

Wayne NF might be a good place (archers fork, vesuvius, wildcat trails). Saturday, Sept 24 is fee waiver day. Could be lots of horses, ATVs and bikes that weekend.

/@chemguy, dumb question, is Vesuvius the same as Zaleski/Lake Hope? Have you hung in those spots yet? All are places I've wanted to go, but never tried. Free waiver day? Is there a cost to camp there?

    Starting to get excited folks!

Never been to any of those sites and interested in all. Mohican is the closest for me.

I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.

Not a dumb question. It's been a hectic week and I was too hurried when I typed. Lake Vesuvius is in WNF, and there is a good trail there. I've day hiked it, but never pitched or hung. There are hiking trails, ATV/bike trails and horse trails in WNF. There are usually fees to use ATVs, and horses, but not for hiking or backcountry camping. On fee waiver day, there are no fees for those activities. This can turn the problem of nonhikers using hiking trails into a big, muddy and manure-riddled problem (think: ankle-deep mud and flies). Nonhikers are supposed to stay on use-specific trails, but that does not always happen.

One of the issues with all trails in WNF is that there are no potable water sources. All haul or treat. That might influence our decision.

Sounds like I just argued against WNF, at least for early Fall. Maybe others have a different perspective. Backpackohio has good overviews of many trails in OH, maybe we could all take a look there as a way to ID a location.

I'll be interested to hear what others think about difficulty and distance. It's been an 'off' season for me, and I was only able to hit the AT for a pair of day hikes in Shenandoah NP while on a family vacation. Neither distance nor difficulty is a big deal to me, but the greater each is the slower I might be.
