My try at a DIY ridgeline fan

I have seen some ridgeline fans made from computer fans and since it is so hot here in Florida I decided to make one of my own. Luckily I had everything I needed already.

I soldered a 9 volt battery connector onto the fan wires so that I can use a 9v battery or a 12v battery pack that takes 8 AA batteries.
Just did a 5 minute test with the big 12v pack and it moved quite a bit of air. The 9v battery doesn't run the fan as fast but is much lighter.

What a brilliant idea! thank you sir.

Cool idea. Any idea on how long it will run on either of the battery setups?

Love this idea. Now just switch to rechargeable batteries and add a small solar panel, and you're indefinitely sustainable!

I'm honestly not sure yet, I made it in about 10 minutes last night and haven't had a chance to really test it out. I just sprayed my hammock down with permethrin so I should be able to sleep in it in the yard tonight and try it out. after looking at some information online, it may run for about 3 hours on one 9v battery. It should run considerably longer on the 12v pack. I tried running off of a USB battery pack, but they only put out 5V or so and the fan didn't run very fast and didn't move a lot of air.

I hung my fan from a caribiner and with hammock movement, it caused the fan to move from side to side. I have a fan that blows at me though, from the ridgeline in front of me. I assume your setup will blow on you from directly above, so maybe that won't be an issue. Looks great.

One of the gang brought a flock of these to the Harold Parker "Short Notice/Stormageddon" Hang last month.
They don't move all that much air, but they DO work.
I like your solution to hang it. It looks like you could jostle the biner position to get an angled hang to get it right on your face without being right IN yo' face....
    Thx

I somehow got a second wrap on the parachord around the biner by accident and noticed the friction made it so that I could make adjustments and they would stay. I guess it's what Bob Ross would call a happy accident.
I made a quick video to try to show the difference in airflow when using a 9v battery and the 12v pack

My experience with these PC fans are they make more noise than they move air not to mention they are very heavy for the output.

I agree that this is not the best solution, i just wanted to make something out of things I have around the house. I would never take this on a backpacking trip where I had to hike more than 2 or 3 miles. That being said, I was very surprised at how much air it did move with a full 12v.
