    Mosquitoes!!

So i live in the swamps of central Florida and here we have a major problem with mosquitoes and it is some of the worst things ever. does anyone have an idea for a cheap mosquito net or a way to keep mosquitoes away from my hammock?

Fronkey net (either DIY or purchase one from a cottage vendor) and treat your hammock/netting with permethrin. That's pretty much what all of us FL and southeastern folks do. This assumes you don't have a hammock with an integrated netting.

I you're already using a hennessy, warbonnet, etc with a zippered netting then the treatment is still a good idea. Also, mosquitoes can/will bite right through the bottom of an untreated single layer.

Does your hammock not have an intergrated bug net? If not start with something like the Fronkey style bug net from Dutchwaregear.com
    http://www.dutchwaregear.com/fronkey-style-bugnet.html

Then treat your hammock and bug net with Permethrin
    https://sawyer.com/products/permethr...ect-repellent/

These two are about as good as you can get to keep the bugs away.

Mosquitoes can turn a fun adventure into a terrifying nightmare. Seriously, I go on more trips in the winter and off seasons simply because I hate mosquitoes so **** much. My one tip is to make sure that there are NO holes in your net-system. Seriously, you might think "ah, the mosquitoes will never find this hole" but you would be very wrong.

Some hammocks just have a netting over the top but here in MN I refuse to go hammocking without a netting that fully encloses the hammock. I then shove a stuff sack into the holes at both ends if I can't get them tight enough.

Welcome. You can get a bugnet from Dutchware Gear for $57. Click here to check that out. Not exactly cheap but definitely good quality. I'm sure others will chime in with DIY options.

yeah, i am new to hanging so all that i have currently is an eno doublenester. and yes i have found out about the mosquitoes biting through the hammock. and i realize that i will need a lot to get to a full campsite setup. (ive been camping in tents for 10 years now but hammocking is whole new territory.) just need cheaper options if possible. i will take a moment and look at the posted links.

Well I was going to chime in with bug net and permethrin, but the fire option peaked my interest.

+ 1 on the Fronkey bugnet - I've been using one for several years and have never been bitten. There are people concerned about mosquitoes being able to fly up through the bottom opening, but I don't think mosquitoes are smart enough to do that - they attack their meal head on (I don't even cinch mine shut). Dutch makes Fronkey bugnets and so does BIAS.

Permethrin is a godsend. I spray my clothes and bugnet and just never get bit, period (and mosquitoes consider me a tasty morsel).

I've done little summer camping compared to shoulder season and winter camping, but I've found that even without a net and a good permethrin treatment even in summer I do alright. I have a wide body hammock and the sides are a little floppy, so that may be what is saving me... but even in July when I camped every weekend, I wasn't bitten and the wife stayed bite free, also. Permethrin is the most amazing discovery/invention I have ever come across. Many things are neat, but few are essential. Permethrin is one of those essentials.
