I'm taking my daughter camping this weekend locally. Either going to do Falls Lake or Umstead. If anyone else is interested in joining, or has suggestions of sites, please feel free! Nothing fancy, just an excuse to get out in the trees with our new hammock. If you'd like to go, what is your preference on sites?
Try Shinleaf (falls lake). It won't be crowded like the other campgrounds...Eno River state park.....backpacking sites one mile in....Mountain to Sea trail goes through both.....Originally Posted by Comet_Seeker

+1 on Shinleaf. Multiple hike in sites depending on what distance you want (all 1 mile or less) and how close to the lake you want.
I'll have to check out Shinleaf sometime without the little one around. I want to keep close to the car just in case she gets scared. We ultimately decided on Falls Lake Holly Point. So if anyone wants to get out, or just come out for the day, let me know :-)
I have hiked through that campground on the MTST. Looks very nice. Have to work this weekend or I would join.

Yes Holly Point is past Shinleaf. Never been there. Looks like fun.

Looking forward to a trip report of where you decided to camp and how it went. I'm hoping to get out with my daughter and some of her friends in Sept and/or Oct and am looking at Falls Lake.
