    No snake skins ?

Hi All, I just bought my first hammock and just wanted to ask how to keep it clean and off the ground while putting it up since it didn't come with snake skins.

    Thanks

Double ended stuff sack is the way I roll. AKA Bishop Sack/Bag.

I'm unemployed at the moment so buying some snake skins is going to be hard to do.

Learn to deploy your hammock in stages. Don't just pull everything out all at once.
Attack tree straps to trees and connect one whoopie
slowly walk to next tree letting the hammock out of its stuffsack slowly so it does not touch the ground and connect your second whoopie.
Done, nothing ever touches the ground.
    hth

PS; not too many peeps use snakeskins for their hammock just the tarp...

I have a table cloth hammock, and don't use a stuff sack of any kind. When I hang it, I rig my suspension first. Then I just pull it out of my pack, sort of arrange it around my neck and hook up one end then the other. It never touches the ground.

My point is that it can be kept off the ground without a stuff sack (or snake skins). Just take care while you're working. Happy hanging!

I tried snake skins for the hammock but it was just too bulky to be fun - I usually had a sock or UQP added. I use a double ended bag for the hammock and when appropriate, I have the head end marked with different color amsteel suspension. As described by Outback, I also connect the strap to a tree, connect one end of the hammock, and pull it out of the bag as I walk towards the strap on the other tree. Because Usually have some other protection, like a UQP, I don't worry too much but I do keep things off the ground as much as possible.

I've been keeping the tarp in a separate stuff sack but will experiment with snake skins there. Twice I've been bested by the wind when trying to put up a tarp. And often I want the tarp up (center ridge line) for fast deployment but tucked away so I can see the sky.
