Cool project. Seems like crimson is popular right now; I just got several yards in that color to make a synthetic top quilt for my wife, and my project is at about the same stage as yours... I don't have to tie-dye though...
Your fabric is fancier than mine; I'm using plain old 1.1 oz ripstop nylon from RBYR for one shell and some very nice red Argon 90 from MYG for the other.
For the insulation, my wife's "summer quilt" will use Climashield Apex 3.6 instead of the 2.5, because A) she's something of a cold sleeper and B) this is the Pacific Northwest, where much of the summer is basically just like spring and fall...
The tie dye came out wonderful. I like the Crimson with black dye. The contrast is great. I tried a Robin Egg blue with dark blue and green once, it came out like something out of a zombie film wardrobe. Burnt Orange and black work good but look very Haloween.
I totally get using the 3.6 for your area! I could have gone with that but I have a 6 ounce quilt that I use down to the high 30s so if there's a doubt I'll take it, instead. I was mainly wanting something for the "I'm really not sure if I need a quilt at all" weather.
My first hike, I didn't know about quilts at all. It was just me and my 20 degree sleeping bag in a hammock in 45 degree weather, freezing to death all night on my side. So I tend to pack warm now.
Update! Its ready to sew, wish me luck
