Got the ExSyn9LW right out of the gate. I have used it from 80° temperatures at bedtime, right down to 20° wake up... Never slept too hot, or too cold. [Caveat: NOBODY sleeps that good when it's 80°... you gonna sweat!]
I think you should be fine with the 7. Mebbe go buy one of the $5 double-sided reflectix windshield shields. If it's going below freezing slide it in under the mat.

I have the REI Stratus as well and it seems to do fairly well. The only issue i have found is that it wants to curl up in the footbox and my feet feel very confined. I'm still playing with how much I inflate it as I'm sure I just don't have it right yet.

Hmm - yeah - I have some reflectix - probably some of that if it dips down in temp will boost the r value ?

Maybe I should have sprung for the 9?

    No.
But I'm just worried about saving a minimum in weight and losing the extra toughness. The Draumr is NOT the rig you want your pad to go all floppy in...
I have already sold out any pretense of being a gram weenie to carry around the heavier weight of the AMOK anyways... I kind of feel like it's "in for a penny, in for a pound"

I agree with you but the difference in the 7 and 7 UL is 17.4 oz. That is significant for even the non weight conscious person. I was just curious what anyone's experience with their durability might be.

    Yeah but....from Exped site.
    SYNMAT UL 7 M
The SynMat UL is the ultra light and ultra compact version of the SynMat with slightly lower insulating, puncture and abrasion resistance values.

Since the Amok is pad dependent I would be cautious.

While Amok sells the Exped Synmat UL 7 LW with their hammock to their resident customers:

...I would have to agree with Shug that you should try not to use the UL model. The mat becomes a structural component of the hammock and I would want the strongest material available.

Thanks for the input! I'm still trying to make up my mind and unfortunately my Draumr will be here tomorrow and I have no pad yet!
