Question about side by side hanging.

I just finished making my first DIY hammock and I'm about to make my wife hers. From a suspension standpoint we're going to be trying Dutch's double whoopee hooks to pull off the side by side hang and I have high hopes for that working.

I've seen his video, but haven't seen much on the forum about people using it; does anyone have any experience good or bad?

My biggest question comes down to the tarp. This is the next project I embark on and I'm wondering if I need to modify my plan(typical hex fly, no doors) to accommodate the side by side hang?

My wife and I tried that exact same method with and without spreader bar. It works both ways but without the spreader bar our hips would be pressed against each other during the night and just couldn't sleep well. With the spreader bar it works perfectly. However I did have to have a much bigger tarp made as we felt our normal 10 x 12 (with doors) was just way too tight. So we had a 12 x 14 made (with doors) and its perfect. Lots of space and room for the spreader bar. You can't really get the doors closed on the spreader bar end but the doors act well enough as a wind break slanted in. Seems like you are going with out doors though so I would just plan on extra width to the tarp. Many have made a "normal" size tarp work on here but I feel you really need the extra coverage of 12' to 16' wide to really have bombproof coverage and not be cramped.
Once you're lost in twilight's blue, you don't find your way, the way finds you.

I've been using a walking pole,

Put the tip through the big hole in the steel loop alien I use on my suspension and on the handle end, went round the suspension a few times with the wrist strap then hooked it over the handle end.

That looks great. What size tarp do you use?

I've done it a few times with 3 trees, without the double hooks and spreader bar. When weather, or location, permits I just porch mode my 11' x 10' winter tarp with doors.

Here's a quick little video of the setup my wife and I use. The tarp is a Kelty Noah's 12x12.

We were under the tarp during a thunderstorm a couple weeks ago. I had pitched the tarp too high, and we had a little rain blow under the tarp but nothing serious. If I had pitched it correctly we would have been fine.

    We love our Dutch Doubles.

My girlfriend and I use the Hennessy hex while using the Dutch double hooks and so far it had worked out great. It's 12x10.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to stick with my plan to make a 12x10 hex fly and see how it goes.
