    Orange During Hunting Season

I see almost all the hammocks, tarps and so forth are dark to blend in. I was just wondering what you do during hunting season. Do you put orange on any of your gear or just wear orange when hiking? I have the AT going through a lot of State Game Lands here in PA, so was just wondering. I definitely plan some fall hanging.

Problem solved for a Clemson man!!!

Truth be told, I have a blaze orange pack cover that I use during hunting seasons, also an orange Clemson shirt and an orange hat. It's my incognito outfit ... at home games.

Friend I too am in Pa. I never go in the woods without orange. I had a 10x10 orange tarp I used on my tent during bear season in Elk county. That to is another reason I'm looking at the new Amok hammocks when they get longer

The orange pack cover is a good idea. Just ordered my Circuit with orange accents.

Since I don't hang during daylight the hammock and tarp don't matter much. I grew up in Wayne County and hunted most of my life. I help manage 196 acres here in MA of which half are open to hunting and which border other state lands also open. On the opening day of a season I rarely do anything more than wear an orange/safety yellow vest. After the high-activity days, I do have an orange hat that I pack and will wear at other times but not religiously. If you're worried about camp, you could borrow the turkey-hunting trick of getting a few blaze orange bands to wrap around the trees you hang from. I will sometimes throw my vest into my pack if I know I will be hiking in an area that is popular for hunting, and if I start to see people or hear shots close by I will stretch it over the pack like a cover. But I've only done this one time in the last 10 years.

IMHO, most people's worries about this are totally overblown.

Thanks for all the responses. I do have quite a few pieces of orange. Shirts and caps and such. I guess I'll just put some of that up and not worry about being all out orange or anything. Of course, I don't plan on going out the first day of the season either.

We have been doing Blaze Orange for Hammocks, quilts, and a lot of other gear for a long time. It's probably not the most popular color we offer but quite a few folks do pick it for various bits of kit. We also have had a lot of folks pick some of the other bright colors like Florescent in tarps, lime is quite bold and stands out well in the woods as does our red and blue. I am sure not all are thinking hunting season but it does not hurt. I set me kiddos up with bright colored tarps and quilts so that in the event we get separated wile hiking they can set up their tarp for shelter, wrap up in their quilts for warmth and be highly visible at the same time for better chance of being located.

I of course also pick the bright orange buff, and other bits of gear if I am hiking or out fishing during hunting season. I don't worry to much about most folks that are out hunting, generally they are pretty safe, but better to be easy to see than not.

Orange hat a lot cheaper than hospital stay or worse. If you've already got it, no reason not to use it.

One reason I do prefer bow hunt is lower risk of getting injured. That being said orange is also good for rescue or emergency use/signals. I always carry some Orange ribbon in my first aid kit, it doesn't weigh anything and could be life changer if needed
