    Another one on sale

    Howdy,

Just want to share another sale I found today:

Byer of Maine Moskito Kakoon Hammock: https://www.rei.com/product/894667/b...kakoon-hammock

For us newbies it seems like a decent option for the price.

Here is a review of this hammock:

It seems like with a few mods it turns into a pretty good deal.

    Cheers.

I had two of the previous version and my kids were able to destroy them fairly quickly. With the addition of the poles for the bug netting, it sounds even easier to destroy.

Go for it and let us know how you like it. It's a good starter price.

I did order it and it is on the way. I will find out if it was worth it. For that price I guess it is worth a try.

So I received the hammock in the mail two days ago. With storms rolling in the evenings I have not been able to test it for extended periods of time.

I saw their website and noticed that this is an older version of this model. It seems like the new model is 1ft. longer and the stretch sticks for the bug net are removable.

The suspension system that came with it seemed a bit odd. I would not use cord to wrap around the trees so I removed the cord and used my straps. The ridgeline provided to setup the bug net is easy to setup and adjust. I do like the bugnet a lot specially here in bug country, NC where you can't really be outside without attracting bugs.

Once I use it for longer periods of time I will share my experience about this one. My next project will be to replace the suspension with whoopies and start working on a tarp for it.

That's a great deal! The hammock at regular price is a great deal already. It's a light, comfortable hammock. I've many nights of good sleep in it. However, it does need a few mods to work correctly for the trail. It could use another foot of length, and I wish there was a way to rig a ridgeline when using the bugnet side.

Overall, it's been a great starter hammock. I'll be passing it on to my son once I am able to spring for the WBBB.

Today I spent a few more minutes on this hammock using my freshly made whoopie slings and I have to say it was not as comfy as my 11ft DIY hammock but it was good enough that I almost fell asleep to the sounds of katydids and cicadas.

For less than $30 this was for sure a good purchase since it already has the built in bug net. Now I need to either find a budget friendly tarp to go with it or make my own since I already have the material for it.
