Someone posted in another thread about the same park that they had to leave early because of grizzly activity. Are grizzly bears common in western parks or is a grizzly sighting a rare experience?

Grizzlies are around, as well as black bears. In my times out in the woods I have never seen a bear of either species while hiking. I have seen evidence of them! As well, you do hear stories of encounters. I believe there were a couple reported around Canmore/Banff while I was in Waterton. The only time I have come across a bear was in Saskatchewan on a trail while riding my bike. It was about 70 yards ahead of me. I got off the bike, pulled out my bear spray, yelled at the bear and made lots of noise. It looked at me rather uninterested, walked into the bush and I waited a few minutes before I continued on the trail.
