    Old Guy, New Hanger

I did a lot of looking and frankly some of the prices for a piece of material with a hook at each end kind of floored me. So I thought i'd get an inexpensive hammock from Mass Drop that included a set of good hanging straps, Haven't done a set up yet. Taking them with me when I return home next month to Tucson Az. Hoping to put them to good use there. Please stay tuned...

It may seem like a bunch of money but its like any hobby if you enjoy it eventually you will see that it is not that much money, lol. Once you get the bug you will be looking for your next hammock, I have 3 already. And actually I sleep better in the hammock I got off of woot compared to my more expensive hammocks, but I am only 5ft 6in so that may be why. But go to a group hang and you can see different types of hammocks and setups. And hit up used gear sites, never know what you might find.

Another old guy here - welcome.
Hammock length, width, and hang angle are important for comfort. 10 to 11 foot long by 60 inch wide hammocks are quite comfortable. Around 82% ridgeline is a good angle to start with (hammock length X .82 = the straight line distance between your hammock ends - like a gradual 'U'.
So check the size of the one you have and don't expect too much if it is too much less than 10 feet long.
For around the house (or non critical travel usage) you can make your own out of 4 yards of material (walmart) using this procedure - no sewing necessary of you buy strong material with the edges some what fused. My DIY Walmart material hammock has been heavily used and washed for 5+ years and is still good. $1.50/yd =$6

Also an old guy, and pretty beat up, knees of titanium and plastic etc. Hammock napping, sleeping and camping, the more you do it the more you'll love it.

. I get a good night's sleep in my longer (11') and wider (60") hammocks. for gathered end type (Dutch's) and really love the sleep I get in my bridge hammock too, (that one is from Warbonnet). Slept out in the trees last night, over eight hours, and refreshed.
I live out in the boonies so it's easy and quiet to camp out right out the back door and walk up the hill. I'm so old I'm hanging in oak trees I planted forty years ago. But you will find yourself looking for trees and other things with about the right spacing to hang from as you can do this almost anywhere.

Make some of your own gear too. I've easily made three "table cloth" hammocks that are great for napping as well. and I could slap my universal bug net on those for use overnights out in the piney woods.

Have a great time and pick up info here on this great helpful Forum.
