EASY solution to closing doors Superfly and RidgeRunner

After spending a cool night sleeping in my hammock out in my air conditioned hammock room...i thought i would plan for this winter and figure out how to get the doors to close all the way on the superfly tarp.
Easy solution is to tie a cord across to connect the two triangles shortening the distance between the apexes essentially letting the doors come together rather than be held open by the triangle.
This setup on mine yielded a distance of 10' 6" from new apex to apex...but it's fully adjustable to make it longer or shorter depending on the tarp.

    Pros:
    EASY!!!
Gives me a ridgeline to hang my wet clothes or headlight or Luci light or whatever
No complicated process to re-do the dogbones
NOT permanent! Only do this as needed when i want to fully close the doors.
    Automatic drip lines

    Cons:
Will be a little more tippy. I couldn't see the difference at first, but yea it does change it slightly. Slightly.

Options: Putting clips on the end for fast application and for a fixed distance.

I made the edit in the text...but one could add some clips to the ridgeline and create a pre-set distance and fast clip-on set up. If i had some extra Dutch bling setting around i'd try it, but i don't.

Thank you very much for the compliment. I did a lot of searches but it kept going back to permanently shortening the dogbones...and i'm too lazy to go through all that hassle i guess.

The knots were some homemade knot i came up with. I have trouble remembering the proper knots so i usually just come up with one on my own that holds. Sorry i cant be more exact. It can't slip open, so any knot that will not slip open and can be easily untied should work.

What type of cord did you use? Amsteel? I know your setup is for winter, but did you try zipping up the bug net and see if the new ridgeline interfered with using it?

Good idea though. I'm working on my no sew mod this weekend for the superfly and this will give something else to do. Thanks.

    doesn't interfere with bug net.
I used an guy line off an old tent. Supposes it doesn't matter except Amstel doesn't hold a knot as well and you do need a material that doesn't stretch and holds a good knot.

Cool idea, after my maiden voyage with the superfly and ridge runner is was thinking that the doors basically became obsolete so I may as well go with a different tarp entirely but this is a good solution. Thanks!

What made them obsolete? Just because they do not fully close doesn't make them obsolete. I've used mine in various setups and mostly what the doors are for is to offer more protection from rain and wind. They do both of these in various modes. I use my in porch mode most of the time and the doors on the back are perfect for more side protection. If you do not need doors then by all means get a smaller lighter tarp but for me it's always better to have doors for those rainy, windy nights.
