    Underquilt weight

I received my new underquilt yesterday and it is awesome! But then I weighed it and it weighed 1.5oz more than it was supposed to. I'm not a weight weenie, so I don't really care that it was 1.5 oz more. I was just wondering if it was common for the estimated weight to be off. I understand that there may be different variables on why something will weigh more (or less). I was just wondering it is common for the actual product to be different weight from the advertised weights. And what is a reasonable margin of error? Is 1.5 oz difference pretty common?

And again, I don't want to sound like I am whining or complaining because I love the quilt I have. I just want to be aware that there is a 1.5 oz or 2 oz or 3 oz (or whatever) margin of error. And I can take this into account when planning what I buy and what I pack.

I'm guessing you weighted it in the stuff sack? That's probably a good 1oz right there. And no matter how accurate the scale, it could easily be .5-1oz different that the manufacturers. Just some guesses.

I did weigh it with the stuff sack, but the published weight was with the stuff sac. I also weighed it using three different scales for comparison.

I just got an email from the person that made it. And he said that it was because some of the colored fabrics are running heavier. That kinda makes sense. I guess depending on the type of ink used for the color, it can weigh more. Am I correct in that assumption?

Are there fabrics that are more consistent in weight regardless of color?

Anything camo is going to weigh that much more. With camo, you have a colour layering going on, at least that's what I understand it to be. The more layers, the heavier the fabric will be. You didn't say yours was camo, but it's a perfect example of how and why that can happen.

    Enjoy your new UQ!

It has been a while since I shopped for a quilt but if I remember right the listed weigh is usually approx. weigh for a specfic size. Since vendors offer so many different material weighs, quilt length and widths.
Asking them to provide an exact weigh for every possible option they offer is a bit much, IMO

1.5 oz can be a big deal to some people if you're talking about a 12 oz quilt.
1.5 oz is no big deal to many for a 30 oz quilt, for instance.....

I know what you mean though.I shelved a really nice coffee mug that weighs about 3.3 oz with it's lid etc in favor of a styrofoam cup that fits my Snowpeak perfectly. You will find a way to cut that 1.5 oz off of another item and sleep better at night than you did with a pad.I am still way too heavy overall but am trying.
