"A line of severe thunderstorms raced across northern MN early Thursday, killing a couple people near Basswood Lake on the Canadian border in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. A seaplane was dispatched to rescue nine campers in the BWCA. The injured were being taken to a hospital in Ely, said Lake County Sheriff Carey Johnson." This is an early report so there may be more injured campers not yet reported.
Watching that line sweep thru Michigan right now. I'm sorry to hear that and hope there are no injured campers still out there.
"Lake County Emergency Management Director B.J. Kohistedt confirmed a 39-year old woman and a 13-year old boy were killed by falling trees on the shore of Basswood Lake.Two others in the party were injured. They were flown out of the wilderness area Thursday morning for medical attention." There was also a storm death on June 19 of this year. It will take a long time to clear the area for in 1999, it took over two weeks to cut out the portages and check out all the remote camp sites.

That's hard to hear. I just read the report myself. 4 deaths in the BWCA from storms in one season that's hard to wrap the mind around. Good thoughts to those poor families.
It was an intense scary storm. I've never seen lighting like that (and I've lived in Texas). It wasn't just continuous but firing on top of each other. We were without power here for around 12 hours, some communities won't be back on the grid for 2 days. My boss's house suffered a straight line wind that did 30 to 40k damage to his house. Trees just everywhere. It's been a rough July for the north land.
