Video: Hammock Camping in NYS: Catskills-Giant Ledge-Slide-Cornell-Wittenberg Mtn loop

    Hi All,

This was a 3 day Hike, 2 night camp, in the Catskills doing a counterclockwise loop starting in the Woodland Valley Parking area. I camp at Giant ledge for the 1st night. I hike over to the Curtis & Ormsbee trail to Slide mountain on Day 2, camping between Slide & Cornell Mtn's. On Day 3 I hike over Cronell & Wittenberg Mtn's and arrive back at my car at the woodland valley parking area.

It was a great hike and camp with really good weather. I hope you all enjoy.

Nice place. Beautiful views and you had some good weather. Thanks for showing how great NYS can be especially the Catskills.

Nice loop! I especially like the planning with the map shown in the first video. This is something I'll do in the future thanks to you.

Thanks for watching. This was my first hike up in the catskills. I just started hammock camping, and for the most part hiking, since this spring. I mostly hiked in Harriman State park up until this hike here. I just came back from my third hike/camp in the Catskills today. It's a little bit of a longer drive for me (I live in Queens NY) but its well worth it. It really is beautiful up there.

You're welcome. I have the app called 'pdf maps'. Its really awesome when you go places they have maps for. Fortunately they have the NY/NJ trail conference maps for Harriman State Park and the Catskills, which is where I've been focusing my Hikes and camps so far. I like these maps because they are topographical.

Hey fellow Queens hiker, thanks (again) for the app. I also mostly hike the trails in the lower Hudson Valley and head to the Catskills once in a while due to it being further out. Giant's Ledge is definitely next on my to-do list.

This is a great loop, its really fun in the winter. My wife and I did this loop too, in 1.5 days. It was her first backpacking trip and she wanted to push me off a cliff around half way through day 2.

Lol, yea its definitely long. I thought I'd have made it further on day 2 but I underestimated the distance. Going the other direction I think would be allot harder though.

Both times Ive done that loop, with her and once in the winter, it was going clockwise...i cant compare the directions personally, but that hike up Wittenberg from Woodland Valley is a rough way to start your hike. Ha.

Oh ok, yea, thats gotta be real intense. And to me it seemed like there were even more steep spots leading up to Slide Mountain from Cornell Mountain.
