While we are on the subject of drip lines etc. - I just got my Slug Tube and have not yet used it.Do most people leave the ST on their suspension overnight?Do you slide it all down under the tarp at night or leave it stretched out on the suspension overnight? I am thinking most would keep it out of the weather so it will be dry in the morning but one of the vids I saw did not indicate that and I was pretty curious about it.

Since I use my slug on my hammock and use my hammock as a stuff bag and keep quilts on it in use with the slug, I do not let mine sit where it will get wet.

It rained so hard that a catfish drowned in campsite--and I noticed that a few inches on both ends of hammock were damp in morning. Good that I was high and dry.

So would the tag end of a strap / cinch buckle set up be a good water break / drip line? Never considered the aspects as described in the video. Going to add drip lines just to be sure.

Thanks,I think I saw a video where the user recommended cinching tight with the Sluz on the straps to keep the straps dry and all the time I was thinking "ain't now way!" it's going in your pack in the morning. You see all kinds of "well intentioned advice" out there.................

I haven't had any problems with any water making it to my hammock. That said, I have always used a half hitch on either my Whoopies or now my Speed Hook. This itself acts as a water break and it's under the tarp.

I have been in some serious downpours and haven't seen much water make it down the lines. Any type of break in the suspension will work.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Thanks for the video. That was very informative

    Aragorn: You've already had it.
Pippin: We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast?

I am sure it is possible but I have been out in some very bad weather and my drip lines haven't gotten wet. They are under my tarp but before the hammock. Could be because I use thin woopie sling line or, because I have doors on my tarp and they usually touch the line maybe they are redirecting the water before it gets to the drip line. I keep them on anyway though a a number of long time hangers I have met say they are not necessary. I will keep them for insurance though.

If you use a strap, you can do something like this

Any water running down the top of the strap gets diverted to the side. Water running down the bottom will drip off the loops...Notice that my hardware is arranged to have a drip point: if you're using straps without loops or if the flow is strong enough that the momentum carries the water over the loopsthen the hardware is there.

While it's best to have your drip point just under the tarp, if the geometry is a bit tight and the only two trees around are really close the drip point can be within an inch or two outside of the tarp, the amount of droplets that will hit an inch or two of suspension is pretty minimal in normal rain, and for that amount, in that distance, the water can't get the momentum it needs to jump hardware. Still, best for it to be under the tarp if you can because in a really hard rain that 1 inch will be a weak point, but that will be a calculated risk when you do it.
