I watched one of his videos and he acted like a weirdo. I don't know if I can trust a guy that crazy.

I'm fortunate enough to have a very-slightly-used Gamma UL with the cuben tarp shipping to me right now.

My question: with a pad, and no underquilt, how cold can I go? I'm looking at an overnight trip in a couple weeks, lows will probably be around 30. I have a Klymit Static-V Lite Insulated pad I'll be using (R value: 4.4). Am I good, or will it be too cold?

Paintball, I would necessarily let the tarp stop you. I really am jonsing for one of the custom tarps solely because how well they button up. But I have used a variety of tarps with my 90 degree. I have found an inexpensive silnylon 10x12 can suffice and give coverage in the rain. I prop the long ends up with expandable hiking poles (one in the center on both ends) and works well enough. I also have a CF Winter Palace that I have modified to work, mainly because I wanted to be able to use it both for the WBRR and 90*. Lastly, this fall I got a good purchase from Mountain Wilderness on their XLT/Amock tarp in Marpat cammo silpoly. I haven't deployed it yet but I am confident it should work for the 90* given the similarities of the Amok hammock style. Geez, seems I getting hammock rich and money poor all too quickly.

Mine arrived. It was about 1.5 weeks. That's pretty good from Switzerland to Texas! I was only able to hang for 5-10 minutes, but it seems fine for my 6'2" frame. It definitely shrinks and expands to your length. It was very comfortable without a pad. The set up with netting and pockets is very nice. Easy to hang as well, but I did not like the descender rings at all. Might need to switch to mule tape/continuos loops with the Beckit Hitch. I found it easy to get in and out of Overall I'm very impressed. I will try to see if it can work with my Tato stand in a few days.
But for the grace of God, there, I go...

Cool, I'm glad you like it, good luck! I doubt you can get a Tato stand set up high enough to hang this hammock, but I'd love to be wrong about that.

Followup on my "30 degree weather" question - I was fairly cold, even with a Klymit Static V lite Insulated + Thermarest Z-SOL pad. Reason being, they don't fill the hammock pocket very well, even when stacked. This allowed air in the pocket around the sides of the pads, and I got cold. And the pads were of insufficient size to stretch the hammock head-to-foot, so it compressed my down quilt at the foot end against the bottom of my feet, so I got cold. And the whole thing "bananad" a bit, causing my knees to feel hyperextended (which I fixed by putting my pillow below my knees).

Lessons learned: To avoid being cold, I probably need to fill the pocket completely with something, or use an underquilt. Two stacked pads that are skinnier/shorter than the pocket doesn't do the trick.

I have since purchased a pad which should fill the whole pocket, and fit snugly (Exped 7 UL size Large/Wide), and provide good insulation. In theory, this should keeps things warm, comfortable, and the hammock well stretched out. The pad is 21oz, excellent for the size/insulation and similar to an underquilt. We'll see... it either works well or I'm headed to a gathered-end with UQ :-)
