How about a tarp like the Yukon Outfitters MG-rainfly1G Walkabout Rainfly, turned 90 degrees from it's usual orientation? At 11 ft 10 inches x 9 ft 4 inches (measured diagonally) seems it would provide good coverage. And at 14 ounces it is a reasonably light weight alternative. And very inexpensive when available on Woot for about $25. ($45 now on Ebay)
I THOUGHT GETTING OLDER WOULD TAKE MUCH LONGER.
Hi there,
This is my very first post after lurking for some time already.
My name is Greg, I'm from Holland and I have the hammocktent 90degree hammock.
Sofar I only had did a short test to see if I can manage getting it hanging and to see if my tarp fits.

So, I only did a short test hang, hope to do an overnight really soon.
Some comments on the hammock:
I's my first hammock. I opted for this one because it seemed to be a nice flat lay which I think I prefer. The Amok Draumr was an option, but I found it too heavy and too bulky.
-I don't think this hammock fits large people. I am 1.80 meter (if I take a deep breath) and I fit perfectly. (5.9 ft?) I would not recommend it to longer people.
-I have the Rab Siltarp III, it fits well I think, but I am not sure if it is a nice full protection in heavy wind and rain. especially when the wind changes it's direction.
-If the trees are far apart, more than 4 meters, (13ft?) the tree straps have to go up high, and it can interfere with the tarp ridgeline. Meaning the tarp will be higher than prefered. At least that's what I think form the first test run.
-the view from the hammock is good.
- sitting in it works best without the pad. I use the Exped synmat 7ul
-It lays comfortable with and without the pad, but without you have to deal with a bit of harmonica effect when changing position.
- I am not abig fan yet for the two ring contruction to suspend it. getting to loosen up again is a pain in the a.
Anyway,
I will say hello on the introductionforumpage,
many greetings all the way from the Netherlands!
Greg
Thanks Greg! Helpful info for someone eyeballing this hammock.
Excellent, Greg. Thank you for the info! Super helpful to know that a 10x12 tarp provides decent coverage.
Those look really cool, be sure to let us know how you first overnight goes!
