Crazy hot and humid here in PA too. Got my first hammock Wednesday and tarp yesterday. Tried my first hang in the backyard and it was a mix. Spent two hours in it, but couldn't fall asleep. I was only sweating a little, but I need it cool to sleep. That combined with never sleeping in the hammock before made it tough. I then back inside at 2 AM. By 3, decided I had to try again and it was definitely cooler. Got about 4 hours of sleep before I decided to head back in in the morning. Looking forward to some cooler sleeping. Definitely an upgrade from trying to sleep in a tent this time of year.

It tends to be in the low to mid 90s here until it rains, then the temperature drops by at least 10 degrees in the first hour, and if it keeps raining, it'll get down into the high 70s by sunset. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving this, but the humidity is so high(averaging 94%), it doesn't get comfortable enough to sleep until after 2am, when it drops down to 73 degrees. To sleep off the ground I'll gladly be a night owl but the weather's being such a tease, I'm worried the moment I get the hammock, the rain'll disappear for two months.

Hanging in really humid weather really sucks. But i would rather be haning in humid weather than being in a tent in humid weather. My hammock has so much better air flow.

My hammock has been "retired" until September. Last 2 weeks have been above 98 and pushing 102-103 some days in SE GA. And then add the heat index. Central TN last week was about a pinch lower temps. No Go on hammocks in my book.

I've been sleeping out in hammock most nights here in the centre of PA at about 1300' elev. high in the Penns Valley. Barely cool enough with a necessary bugnet over WBRR. Last night some heavy lightning sent me indoors at 0200 as I've been struck before and don't want that again.
I've got to come up with a light top cover for the temps in mid to low 60s.

I was able to rig up a 10" battery powered fan inside my Clark NX-270 above my head, blowing down from head-to-feet. Worked great at cooling me off and keeping me cool during the night in the hot & humid air.

I was roughly in your area last weekend for the Sunfish regatta @ Harkers Island and briefly strung a hammock at Shell Point. Thanks to the stiff breeze it was bearable, but that would be a fool's game in Raleigh right now.
