Thumbs up Boy Scouts Make Hammocks

Earlier this summer I backpacked with some Boy Scouts and Venture Crew. Some of them expressed interest in making a hammock set up similar to my own. A super kind HF member squidbilly sent lengths of silpoly and ripstop so these boys could inexpensively make their own set-ups. Yesterday we made the hammocks. Photos of work in progress.

    Thank you
squidbilly for your generosity and kindness!

That is awesome!!! This is something that they will remember for a long time, the skill and making their own gear. Its great to see them sewing and learning how to make goods from raw materials and that you don't have to rely on big stores to make products for them. Great job Monique and squidbilly!!! I am so fortunate that i had someone teach me at a younger age how to sew. And now when i tell people that i sew and make my own gear they really dont believe me until they see me in action I feel like sewing is a dying art and it should be completely the opposite. I cant tell you how many articles of clothing and just stuff around the house I have fixed because i could sew instead of trashing it and buying a new one. Again great job and skill that you are teaching!!
If you don't know where you're going, any trail will take you there...

That is such a nice project. They might be interested in the hammock camping merit badge too.

There is a badge circulating somewhere from a lot of Scout Masters. It may not be an officially sanctioned badge, but it sure is cool.

Life Scout, if you're out there, can you comment on this, please? He is the one that gave me one.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Kind of like this one? Fun but not an official merit badge.

Love this. Wish I could have been exposed to hammock camping when I was a scout. As it turned out, my scouts turned me on to it as a scout master. Great work!

There is an un-official hammock merit badge.https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...adge-Group-Buy

There is also a list of merit badge requirements, but I could not find it at this time

No.... Thank You, Monique. What I gave was just a few $$ worth of material. What you did for them is priceless.
