    Dutch Fleaz and Cuben Tarps

Of course I bought more Dutch bling. I just can't stop. Question for y'all though. I am trying to decide between Fleaz on loops directly to the tie-outs or Fleaz attached to the stakes. I like the idea of being able to adjust while under the tarp but I don't want the Fleaz to "damage" the tarp when squished into snake skins. I am planning a 2017 AT thru hike so that's a lot of stuffing. Any thoughts from you long timers on if this would be a problem long term.

    Thanks so much

    How about this:

Guylines attached to the stakes and either HookWorms or Fleaz (used "backwards") at the other end hooked to loops of either ZingIt or shock cord on the tarp tie-outs?

That keeps hardware off the tarp and puts the adjustment at the tarp corners.

This is what I came up with. It's lawson reflective cord with a 1/8" piece of shock cord. I place a stopper knot at the ends of the shock cord and attach it to the lawson cord with clove hitches (they won't come off). The lawson cord has a bowline on one end and a hookworm secured with a stopper knot on the other. Then I use a continuous loop of zing-it lark's headed onto the tarp tie outs. The hookworms can bend so be aware of that. If they bend and become unusable I can fall back to a trucker's hitch on the tie outs. What's nice about adjusting tension at the tarp tie out is you don't get wet (adjust them from underneath the tarp). I haven't had much luck with the thin titanium stakes so MSR groundhogs for the win!

    Dutch Fleaz and Cuben Tarps

I like fleaz on the tarp just in case I tie out to a tree.

Shock cord probably isn't necessary for use with cuben since it doesn't stretch. And can be a scary thought should your stake be sling shot.

I started with fleaz spliced to my stakes which I really liked since I could use them with different tarps but I really hated winding up the lines on my tarp.

I switched to fleaz attached to my tarp with shock cord and much prefer that method. I larks head my guy lines to my stakes and just wrap the lines around the stakes to stow them. It's not AS versatile but neater imo and just works better for me.

    Hi Trail Runner,

What is the term for this connection/knot to the stakes? I would like to use the hook stakes but with a hookworm on the end of the line that attaches to the stake in the manner you have shown. Thanks for the help.

Don't want to speak for Trail Runner, but it looks to me like a Locked Brommel Loop with the end buried. Used for both the Fleas (just tight) and for hooking the stake through the loop (with the loop a little more loose). Pa Dad has a great You Tube Vid showing how he creates the Brommel with zing it. I am just the Monkey see Monkey do type!
