Just a size comparison showing my DIY parallel hammock without a bug net in a bag, my DIY camo hammock with a DIY modified Fronkey bug net in a bag and my Hennessey Hex tarp with RL in a bag.

I saw a post recently about making your own stuff sacks and what the OP said made a lot of sense. He said make the bag larger then it needs to be. By having the contents loose in the bag, it packs better then being shaped like a football when in a smaller stuff sack. Some of my stuff sacks are from Wallace World and some I've made. I have plenty of material so I may make larger ones.....

A general question about stuff sacks, if I wanted to make a few, and didn't want to use up scraps of various existing material, what would be the best material, with average weight, durability, and cost.

Hi Lane47.... maybe someone in the group can help. The couple of stuff sacks I've made have always been made from scraps...

I made mine from ripstop nylon, is durable and not that expensive.

I either use scraps or buy some cheap ripstop from my local fabric store (they send me a coupon for 40%off my entire purchase every 3 months) I then buy ripstop that is marked down. I try not to keep scraps on hand, I normally recycle (cat or puppy toys)anything that is not usable. Years ago my fabric stash was threatening to take over, so now fabric gets used or it is gone.
