Looking at a ten day kayaking trip and have heard mixed reviews of whether a hammock is suitable or if I should be forced to go to ground. Not sure of an exact route yet, but leaving the car in Spanish, ON, and hoping to get to the Benjamin a Islands (and beyond?). Anyone with experience in this neck of the woods?

I did a bicycle tour of the island 4 years ago and didn't have any problems. I think you'll be okay.
