Hey all,
I'm Grant, a newbie to hangin'. Really enjoy it and feel it is a very comfortable way to camp. I don't think I will be giving up on Tent camping in a casual setting but I am thinking of using it as a primary backpacking setup. I don't do a ton of backpacking, more trips here and there with family.
I have an ENO DoubeNest OneLink Systam but have an order coming from Cave Creek Hammocks with a new netted hammock and top and under quilts. Rick has been amazing to work with and I am looking forward to getting my new stuff hopefully in time for my next camping trip to try it out.
I am definitely looking to find some other hangers in the area to get to know and learn from and maybe go on a couple trips. With the 30degree quilts coming, I should be good to go into october maybe november depending how things go temp wise.
I live in Plymouth, MN but am willing to travel a bit to see some cool places. I also have a lot of time in the outdoors hunting, camping, at the cabin in Wisconsin (grew up in Wisconsin).
I did a 32 day road trip 3 years ago to the Grand Canyon, Vegas, AZ, Zion, Arches, Canyon Lands, Brice Canyon, Grand Escalante Staircase, Moab, Tetons, and Yellowstone. I have also been to Isle Royale, Badlands, and most recently to Glacier NP last July.
Isle Royale was portaging trip for 10 days. Did 3 night overnight in Glacier to Lake Ellen Wilson, probably the coolest place I had ever been. Did 3 night overnight in the Tetons also. Did 2 night overnight at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
All of these experiences are tent camping and I am trying to think of one place I had been which would not have accommodated a hammock and I can't really think of one except the bottom of the grand canyon. If we would have camped in Canyon Lands or Arches then probably would not have worked.
I've only been in MN for a few years so looking to gain some friends with the same outdoor interests. Let me know if your in the area and want to get out for a hang'. My wife is outdoorsy but not real keen on hammocking and roughing it yet. We will see how that goes.
hit me up for some hangin'
I'll take any tips you have for newbie's as well.
