    Climashield Apex questions

First question. I see all of the climashield quilts do not have baffles. Are these UQ's holding up over time? Should they have baffles?

Second question, how does it like to be packed, rolled like a bag or stuffed like in a sack?

Third question, I have traditionally cold feet and usually warm torso. Has anyone tried multiple layers in just a part of a quilt to help taylor it to your sleeping comfort?

    Thanks

No it doesnt need baffles, they hold up just fine.

Stuffing in a sack is ok, not as compressable as down, and doesnt last as long as down in terms of loft, but does last a good long time, i store mine uncompressed.

Multiple layers are fine in sections, but make sure its anchored like at the seam edges.

I made a top quilt from Apex 5.0, and doubled up the Apex in the bottom 10 inches of the quilt to make an extra insulated foot box.

It definitely does not need any kind of baffles at all. Apex has been used for several years, and the quilts hold up just fine.

    1) No baffles necessary.

    2) These quilts are pretty robust; I've purchased used ones as light as 3.6 oz that are holding up nicely and providing good warmth at night. CS synthetic quilts also seem pretty forgiving about how you pack them; you can roll or stuff them without too much difference in how they compress and without much fear of wear and tear. I typically store mine rolled and uncompressed, but I stuff them any which way when camping.

    3) Loco Libre Gear offers their Jalepeno Pepper synthetic TQ with a layered option; you can add an extra layer of 3.6 CS to the top or lower half for extra warmth.

If you double up the insulation in the footbox, do you need a baffle/quilting along the top edge of the extra insulation or will sewing it on 3 sides be enough to keep it in place?

From what I understand, Climashield is a continuous fiber insulation. Which means it won't shift around like the filling in your pillow on your bed. In other words, no need for baffles, or quilting loops.

Yea what everyone else is saying. Ive made four from that material now and it is great. No baffles, no mess, and easy to work with. Just lay it out, pin it up, and sew the perimeter. Im rough on mine; stuff it in the sack and call it good.

I have made 4 under quilts with Climasheild,
I used Combat 3.7 on the first one,, some 2.5 on others, and a double layer of 2.5 on the last.
No baffles needed, I sew it in between the two shell layers.
On the last UQ (with 2 layers of 2.5) I used "headliner spray adhesive) and lightly glued the two layers together AND glued them to the shells, then sewed it together. It really help hold everything in place.
I store the UQs compressed in sacks, never had a problem.

i got a 4 season jarbidge and its holding up great, with no need for baffles because it fills the shell and stays in place. i never thought to double the CS at the bottom for cold feet syndrome, ima hafta do that when i start my CS TQ build. thanks for the lil heads up on that. i store mine on its stand under the hammock lol and when its go time i just roll it up and stuff whatever didn't slide in.

When I made my top quilt, I cut the Climashield about 8 inches longer than the fabric. I sewed 3 sides, and left the extra 8 inches hanging out of the unseeded side.

I then just folded the extra over once, and sewed the last side shut.

I then did a flat sew footbox. Turned out well, also gives some extra padding under the heels, which makes it pretty comfy.

Every day is a good day.
