On July 2 we went up for a day hike in the Cohutta Wilderness. It is a beautiful area and we had a great hike of roughly 12 miles.
We parked at the Chestnut Lead trailhead and walked about 1.5 miles up to Tearbritches Trail. Then we walked up and over Bald Mt and down to the Conasauga River Trail. We followed the river and trail upstream for several miles to the intersection of that trail and the Chestnut Lead trail. We hiked the Chestnut Lead back up and out to our car at the trailhead. It made out for a nice loop hike.
Highlights include a PG moment by some randy couple out on the trail and a possible Sasquatch sighting.
If anyone plans to do this hike, I recommend going in the same direction. If you go the other way, the climb up Tearbritches from the river would be BRUTAL! There are some really steep sections and it is a much longer way up. I'll get our kml file posted and a map for those interested. It's a beautiful area with plenty of camping available and hammock opportunities galore!
