    Basic walking foot sewing machine

Looking for a basic zig-zag true walking foot machine.
I am not making sails, mostly 2 layers of ripstop nylon with grosgrain folded over, so I don't need "industrial"
But I get a lot of slipping/dragging/mis-feed with multiple layers of nylon.

Are there any basic walking feet machines that are NOT "industrial" ?

    Thanks,
    Slack

You can buy a walking foot for almost any machine. I have one on my baby lock and is the single best sewing investment I've made to date.

Does the add on walking foot work as good as a built in one? not sure how it would truly work if the mechanicals are not there from the factory?

If you have slipping, I would try the walking foot attachment and see if it helps. When you have multiple layers of slippery stuff, you probably would be better off with a Needle Feed instead of a walking foot.

For a non industrial walking foot, look for a Thompson Mini Walking Foot.

My Brother CS6000i came with a walking foot that attaches like any other foot, however it has a forked arm that engages a stud (or whatever it's called). It works pretty darned well.

We've had Pfaff 1222 and similar machines for many years - you can find them used but be aware that they have a couple of plastic gears that may crack with age. If you are mechanically 'handy' you can replace the broken gear, but it's not a job for a beginner. I've bought a couple of 1222E machines and both have worked fine without a repair. The one I DID have to fix was my wife's 1977 1222E.
The Pfaff IDT system does make sewing easier, IMO. And, you can click it up out of the way if you don't want to use it. (You need presser feet with a slot to handle the IDT, so with some feet the IDT gets in the way.)

Mine is about 10 years old. No problems yet but don't do too much sewing in webbing. These plastic machines cannot handle it in the long run! They are not made and designed for it.

Power comes from the stud on the needle arm. I purchased OEM because I was worried about everything lining up and am glad I did. With that said, I have read great reviews of the much cheaper generic ones.
