Last weekend I got to take my 11 year old to a scout camp out. they got to do Totin chip, orienteering, lashings, camp stoves and fire, etc. Had a great time. I packed hammocks for both of us but he said he wanted to do tarp camping and have the cot underneath it. (Something he saw his brother do also). So we pitched an A frame tarp on the ground for him. Had a great time but was a bit hot until about 2am when it finally cooled off. I also got to try out some snake skins I finished the night before which turned out pretty well.
This hammock I'm using is from Yukon Outfitters I got off of woot for around $35. Pretty decent for having a net attached too. It has a bit of shoulder squeeze though. Not sure on the setup though. I had it pitched pretty high to the tarp but when i actually sat on it, it sank way low. Any suggestion on how to avoid that? I'm using tree huggers with toggle, whoopie slings, and continuous loops attached to the hammock. there is a ridge line attached where the loop attaches to the hammock, (may be a bit short and I'll be testing it this week). I wanted to keep the tarp a bit lower but may have to raise it next time. Thoughts?
