Talking Sanity check my suspension setup before I buy

So being new to hamocking in general I wanted to run this by every one.

The plan is to make two 15 foot whoopie slings out of 7/64th amsteel (buying 50 feet) from dutchwaregear
I'm also planning on picking up a pair of the 6 foot tree straps from dutchwaregear

The whoopie I will loop the fixed eye end threw the channel in the hammock and threw its own loop. The adjustable end of the whoopie I will hook to the tree straps via a marlin spike hitch.

With the left over amsteel I will make an adjustable ridgline.

Thoughts on this or any ideas that would be simpler/better/cheaper/lighter or more adjustable?

Right now the total with shipping is $21.22.

I doubt you'll need 15 foot whoopie slings with 6 foot huggers unless you're encountering some huge trees spread far apart (and even then you'd need to get the anchor points really high).

I have 4 foot huggers, with approx 6ft whoopies (at full extension). I bought 1 - 25 ft hank of amsteel and made two whoopies with it.

I made my ridgeline out of zing-it, you could consider that as well, you don't need the full weight rating of the 7/64th amsteel for the ridgeline.

Fifteen-ft. whoopie slings? That would be thirty ft. of Amsteel per whoopie, if I'm not mistaken. I generally make 6 ft. whoopies, which use about 12 ft. of Amsteel.

Generally anything over a six foot whoopie is wasted. You can't reach far enough up the tree for a fifteen footer

Good catch I only wrote down the one side so I wouldent even have enough for it with 50 foot.

I should probably just scale those back to 6 or 8 foot whoopies as most of the time I'm not going to find many large trees to eat up the tree strap length.

I need about 16 foot total for hanging in the backyard not including the amount needed to go threw the hammock and around the trees.

Also as far as height goes whats to keep some one from running a horizontal line from tree to tree with a couple fixed attachment points along said line. This would of course put more lateral load on the trees.

Running a line from tree to tree and then hanging from it will sag you to the ground.
Six foot whoopies are plenty long enough. That Dutch guy knows a thing or six about it.

That was the only problem I saw with the horizontal line. You would have to have it so taught you would have to use way heavier line with ratchets or some thing.

So I will pick up what I said and make some whoopies that are right around 6 foot and an adjustable ridge line. Seems like this yields a light setup thats affordable, adjustable and dosn't require any hardware.

The six foot tree huggers could be nice for larger trees, out older forests. But most people use 6 foot whoopie slings, honestly 15 feet is just overkill

But that is .0001 ounces heavier😓.

i got around to making the slings today. easy to make and way less bulk than the old rope and carabiners.

i just need to find the best way to fatten up the ends on the adjustable side so i cant easily pull them threw.

    Maybe this will help http://www.samsonrope.com/Documents/...l-Blue_WEB.pdf

A little research BEFORE you jump in with both feet could save a LOT of headaches.....

This might be a wise decision as well, as your next hammock related purchase https://www.createspace.com/3617299
