    Tarp material to repel ice?

    Hello, all:

Have searched here under multiple phrases trying to learn the best tarp material to repel ice and snow.

Have seen a video of someone rubbing the underside and ice running off, but the material was not mentioned.

I understand HOW to rig for such conditions. Have seen Shug's fine vid's, too.

So, whould those of you that know, please share if and what tarp material reduces the tendency of ice and snow to stick to it.

    Many thanks

As much as I love my cuben fiber gear, it doesn't shed snow and ice all that well. At least, not compared with SilNylon. SilNylon is much slicker, and so solid precipitation sloughs off pretty easy.

I have used my cuben flat tarp in some snow, and it piles up and sticks. My SilNylon pyramid (Black diamond Mega Light) on the other hand sheds snow extremely well. There has to be a lot of wet heavy snow for it to require any shaking off.

I haven't experienced any silpoly in the snow yet, so I can't speak to that performance.

You're in Florida and want a tarp that repels ice and snow? I'm not aware of any such treatment, and if there were such a treatment, it would probably have drawbacks.

I can't say I've seen much difference between cuben fiber and silnylon. They both collect snow and you just have to knock it off every few hours.

    Perhaps my Warbonnet Superfly?

Not so much repelling the ice due to the material. I think anything that stretches like this would cause the ice to beak up and slide off.
