Just looking for general thoughts on the topic. Do you guys find hammocks to be MORE or LESS comfortable when using a sleeping pad inside?

Most folks find pads less comfortable (there will be some exceptions) that just the hammock on their own. That is why so many cottage vendors make under quilts for insulation and none of us make pads. A pad changes the lay of the hammock, an underquilt does not.

If it's a double layer hammock and the pad is only partially inflated they can be quite comfortable. The closed cell foam ones are good too.
A lot of folks will mention condensation build up since pads don't breath. I only experience this once in a while.
Most folks here will also strongly suggest an under quilt. After much trial and error, I finally made one that works pretty well for me. Whether I really like it better than the pad remains to be seen.

i used a pad for my first year but got an UQ a couple months ago. quilts are by far more comfortable for me. i can't say i was truly uncomfortable using a pad, but the UQ is much more comfy.

An under quilt was a huge step up in comfort to me...but I did make pads work for probably 6 months before I invested in an under quilt. Pads were comfortable when you got them situated but there was too much fiddling with pads for me.
For my wife and I:
Pads; foam, air, reflectix etc =
UQ's =
We've also used reflective safety blankets as a UQ in the house over the winter. Worked surprisingly well as far as warmth, had no effect on hammock feel/comfort but condensation was horrendous.
We have never tried a double layer, but also have no desire to. The instant I got into a hammock with a UQ, that contest was over.
For me, it's not really about warmth. I am a finicky and picky sleeper. The only thing I can sleep in is my bed or the equivalent. So sleeping in a hammock is and has been challenging.
The pad, for me, was about added comfort. I carry it anyway in case I need to go to the ground. I've found that perhaps i am a bit more comfortable WITH the pad, but as previously mentioned by others, there's too much movement and fuss keeping the pad in the right place unless its a double layer hammock, which mine is not. I also have an under quilt but never understood how it could add the comfort i'm looking for other than being comfortable as it relates to weather control.
I do it, ive done both. Both are comfy in different ways. I can floo around more in a quily but can feel clostrophic at times. A pad needs a system to get it not to move but once you have it, i feel it spreads the hammock out so no shoulder squeeze, no fabric by my face, no calf ridge.
They work just fine. Though a UQ is way more comfortable in my opinion.
