I understand that scientifically, Celsius makes more sense.

0C is water freezing, 100C is water boiling.

But Fahrenheit is just much more practical.

0 F is really freakin cold, 100 F is really freakin hot.

The whole "normal temp range" in Celsius is like -17C to 37C. There's no simple 0-100 scale like with F.

This has nothing to do with hammocks. I'm obviously bored.

Every day is a good day.

Speedogomer, I lift your from your boredom, it looks like your avatar is the cover for the Dark Side of the Moon Album. About the time it came out, there were "theories" that satanic messages were embedded backward in the popular music of the era. It was a time when "subliminal" was a marketing rage. Computer nerd that I was, someone had me listen to a song track on Dark Side of the Moon that sounded funny. I digitized it, played it backwards and it said, "You can play music backwards but you can't play time backwards." Something like that - it was decades and decades ago.

Psychedelic Rock and the metric system. Boredom at its best.

    OP here.
I'm back from my trip. I didn't have time to try the hammock partly because of no time (a work trip) and no suitable hanging sites. There was too much underbrush where there were trees and I didn't have time to hack out a hanging area. Don't worry, the areas I camp out are not parks nor campgrounds. There are no rangers--nobody. We pitched our tents in an area previously cleared of trees and brush by heavy equipment. There were trees but hanging would have required clearing the brush out between the trees.

Thanks for the additional tips. I came across the idea of a separate hammock for gear which looks promising. Having easy access to gear and not having to dig and search is a plus. In a 2-man tent, I have room to lay it all out. Good to know it's possible to situp in a hammock. For changing I'll sleep in a clean set of clothes to be warmer and also to keep my down bag cleaner longer. Changing requires wriggling into/out of pants, tops, socks, etc.

I'll have to think the hammock concept out some more. Getting into a good quality underquilt makes the proposition less feasible for me. I bought a Thermarest NeoAir sleeping pad to try, it will serve in the tent too.

Thanks for the tip. Hopefully the 12 foot lengths of 1" bright blue webbing I bought for tree straps will remind me to retrieve it off the trees. Maybe a standardized procedure for packing up would help.
