Hi folks,
I picked up my first hammock the other day and I got a little confused with the set-up. Coming from a lightweight tent I settled on the Hennessy Hyperlite which looks great. I decided that I'd install whoopie slings right away and I plan to use karabiners to attach the slings to the tree straps.
It looks like my hammock has the 'sewn through' webbing rather than the style with two holes melted through it. Sorry for the loose terminology! I've just attached the closed-loop end of the whoopie sling to it with a lark's head (shown below) but I'm a bit concerned that it's not going to load the webbing evenly. The rope doesn't look like it sits centrally, if that makes any sense. I saw that some people here had looped the sling through once or twice more before doing the lark's head. Will this function okay as-is or do I need to do anything differently?
On the karabiner end of things am I safe to just clip the whoopie sling in like I did in the photo below, or does it also need something to spread the load? Would a lark's head to the karabiner achieve that or would I actually be weakening the rope? Hopefully I can do my first test hang tomorrow, even if the weather forecast here looks a bit grim!
Edit: The photo with the karabiner shows it attached to the hammock which is bit a confusing on my part. I was just experimenting with the adjustable section of the whoopie sling when I took that photo so the hammock won't be set up like that in the field.
