    First Hammock?

    Hey all,
So I've only recently become interested in backpacking (as in enough to actually go) and I've been considering getting a hammock. So I've looked at the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro, Hennessy Expedition Asym, and the ENO Junglenest. I'm 6 ft and only 130 pounds, and I have a budget of about $175 for a hammock, bug net (if needed) and a rainfly (if needed). What ones would you guys recommend?

Those are all beginner hammocks, and the only one that would meet your budget is probably the HH Exped Asym. However, I'm 5'11 and found the Exped Asym rather short. I suspect you will too.

You're going to need to figure out insulation as well, and yes, you will need a bugnet and tarp.

Yeah, I've set aside money for under and top quilts, and I can get a ENO Profly XL for $80 which would be what I would use with the GTSKP or the ENO Junglenest.

The skeeter beater pro is a great budget hammock with integrated bug net. I have one that I'm gonna need to get of here in a few weeks of youre interested. They're great because they're plenty big enough for anyone, mine has whoopies on it.

While the Skeeter Beeter Pro is a bit longer than the other two, the bugnet is kinda kludgy. GrizzlyAdams had a thread many years ago on installing a ridgeline on this hammock.

I have the Hennessy expedition but I'm 5'9". At 6' you won't be comfortable in it, despite what their website says. If you go the Hennessy route, get the Explorer. It's longer.

You can make your own hammock and suspension for around $20 by ordering a table cloth blank from tableclothsfactory.com and sourcing your line from Dutch, and some straps from your local hardware store. VERY easy to do, no sewing skills required.

Pick up a Fronkey bug net and some line from Dutch, a decent tarp from your vendor of choice, and you're in business.

I'm 5'8" and sometimes I feel like I'm a little cramped in my Hennessy expedition. I would steer you towards the Henessy explorer. You'd get everything you need to get started for summer camping.

6ft and a buck thirty? Don't mean to be a jag but I would start with a couple triple cheese burgers, pound or two of fries and at least three quarts of chocolate milk shake.
