Don't worry, at 5'5" and ... more than 130 lbs (mostly solid) ... for me, the two of us keep the world in balance.

Another +1 for the Trail Lair from Simply Light Designs! Worth every cent. Just contact Jared and he'll help you out with fabric choises and so on.
I keep learning and will never know enough.

Thanks everyone for responding and giving me advice! I decided to go with the 5 O'Clock Shadow from The Bearded Hanger, as well as The Beard Net as a bugnet. I chose this because it's more flexible than an integrated bugnet (even though I originally wanted one) and if I don't need the net I can leave it at home. The Trail Lair was an extremely close second, and if I decide to get another hammock, I'll probably be buying it.

Congrats on your first hammock! You really won't want to go to ground again! Let us know how you like it!

So this is what I have:
    $57.00 - Dutchware 11' net less hammock
$19.00 - Yukon Outfitters MG-Rainfly1 Walkabout Hammock Rainfly
$57.00 - Dutch Argon Summer vented sock
    $5.00 - Dutch Cinch Buckles
    $6.80 - Dutch Tree straps
    $5.25 - 25' of Amsteel

    Total $150.05!

    A few notes:
    • I am a newbie as well, not the most experienced person offering advice.
    • The 11' Dutch hammock in Hexon is very comfortable. I am 5'9" and 230lbs.
    • I use the Amsteel to make my own Whoopie slings. A great way to get into DIY. Simple and many youtubes out there.
    • I use a larks-head knot to attach Whoopies to hammock.
    • The Woot tarp works, but I also have a Kelty Noah 12 I use when concerned about tarp.
    • The Argon Summer sock is not designed as a replacement for a bug net but so far it has been cool enough that it works well for me. I am considering making a 'frontkey' style bug net for my daughter.
    • If I made my own bug net the total cost would drop by a third - throw that money towards and under-quilt or a better fly.
    • Cinch buckles can easily be replaced with the toggle system, but I enjoy how movable they are. Make sure you have enough wraps around them (see Dutch's site for more info on that).
    • I use a Jarbridge under-quilt and am very pleased with that. If you made your own bug net you could fit that into your budget.

oops- I see you purchased. Maybe someone else will find this list of use. Happy trails!

Pretty much all hammocks you'll see on the forums. Just don't abuse them, and make sure you're safely within the weight limit.
