NY State DEC says "camping hammocks" not allowed in DEC campgrounds.

From the NY State Parks website https://parks.ny.gov/camping/things-to-know.aspx :

    Code:
Please do not injure the park trees. NO nails, screws, ropes, or lines permitted to be tied or inserted into trees, shrubs, or other structures.
Nothing specific about hammocks anywhere on the site that I could find.

Interesting...two summers ago I hammock camped in a NYS campground and had no problem. The hammock was actually pitched towards the front of the campsite. Last summer I asked at another campground about using a hammock (instead of a tent) and was told it was no problem. Both campgrounds were smaller ones and probably less popular than others, so maybe the staff has some discretion?

If it's similar to here in Utah, the camp host for that particular campground is the one who manages the rules and such, and really has the discretion on how strictly they adhere to them. The State Parks and State run campgrounds here in Utah on the whole do not allow hammocks on trees, but I have had some camp hosts be pretty lenient with that if I showed them my straps and equipment. others were hardliners about rules.
