    Overnight sleeping is.
This is very curious to me. I can't think of what is different about sleeping in a hammock that would prompt such a rule. Now I'm interested in "the rest of the story."

I'm glad to hear changing is not the issue. When I tent camp I always change outside of the tent. I like to be able to stand up when putting my pants on. If anything, my tarp allows me to do that with more privacy than a tent.

    Good luck on your quest.

All we need to do is come up with some clear straps and they won't know the difference!

Good comment for them to read. Keep the comments and pictures coming.

    It is very curious.

Supt Jensen of North South Lake said it wasn't the changing, because I asked, figuring what else could it be.

We must persuade Albany, who may have or not seen the modern setups with bug screens/ netting and tarp and some modest underquilt.
Perhaps someone in Albany has a picture in their head of an open hammock on a very hot summer night with a slightly clad female or male inside. And this is the privacy issue.

In cold weather the human inside in bundled, underquilted and low tarped. A viewer can't see who ( or what ) is inside.

In the summer full campgrounds, with less or no top cover and no underquilt more anatomy is showing.
Yet, most would prefer a netting against the bugs, particularly in campgrounds.
Most of us use tarps. When you hang in the trees : in the spring and summer nature ( seeds and honeydew ) is dropping on you and in the fall leaves and acorns are dropping on you.

We would not want to see hammocks have to be locked inside a tightly closed tarp in summer camping.
    Or even the colder seasons.

It would be beneficial to have pictures of open setups.

I am bringing my WB winterTarp with doors ( Superfly ) and an old WB Edge (rectangular, like puptent )

Perhaps they think we are more likely to be licked by a bear !

The real question to ask them is, "Why is sleeping in a hammock an issue which requires prohibition?"

Here are five pictures of my Superfly pitched in scout encampments

And one pitched for warm, dry weather hanging side by side with my son.

Here is my 12x10' tarp in porch mode and battened down; at a wild campsite but you get the idea.

Interested to hear how this pans out.

This is the very open setup that we use in the campground.
At the demonstration will tie the tarp low as for rain.

Good examples to show in varied sites. Just what DEC needs to see.

Maybe this has already been answered, but do they allow 'cowboy' camping? No tent, hammock, tarp...just sleeping under the stars.
