This definitely gives me something to think about before I purchase an underquilt which I hope to to soon
Very glad you posted this. I've been torn on my first UQ purchase. 99% of the time i'm in florida camping. But I do an annual backpacking trip in the fall to NC. I've been on the fence about the 3/4 UQ but i'm feeling better about it now that I read this post.
Thinking a 30 or 40F Phoenix is in my future. Thanks for the insight!
I've used my 3/4 20 degree UQ inside during fall and winter months. I have to vent(hang loose), close the doors and open both windows, but it works and it's the same one I take into the field.
Like a lot of the rest, I'll probably be going for a 40 degree econo quilt now, for my inside kit, as well, but my go to is still the 40/20 insulation kit. I've slept outside comfortably down to 17 with just base layers and a fleece hood. It's a great kit capable of working for me with good temperature variables.

30s used to be custom only from most or all vendors. I know hammockgear now sells it as a standard in their Econ line. Seems like a nice rating; I had them make me a custom 30° Phincubator for warmer weather (warm for me is 50-60° for a high...meaning 35-40ish lows are common)
