    Kevlar Mule Tape?

    Hi,

    I bought this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/100ft-Greenl...YAAOSwHnFVuhBG

    Just arrived today (YAY!)

I plan to use it in lieu of regular Mule Tape in a strap plus mule tape suspension. For the loop end (to larkshead to my tree strap), would you sew a loop or tie a knot?

Sewing a loop seems best but I'm concerned about the loose weave and the narrow 3/8" width. If you think tying a knot is the way to go, what knot would you recommend?

This stuff is so light and cheap. 1800lbs strength, too. Oh one more thing: it's thinner than regular MT.

    Thank you!

Interesting find, Otter1! I think this might work well in place of the webbing for the lateral arcs of a bridge hammock. I am planning to continue to use my wider Kevlar straps, that I already have from Dutch, for my suspension straps. Sorry, I can't answer your question about knotting or sewing. But I just placed an order for 100 feet of this, and will attempt to sew it into a rolled hem of fabric for a bridge hammock.

I will be Interested to hear if you have success using this thin webbing as tree straps. I have noticed that the 1" kevlar straps twist more easily, due to the fact that they are not as stiff as webbing that is made from polyester (or polypropylene, or nylon either for that matter). It requires a bit of attention to prevent the webbing from twisting while it is being placed around a tree. I have a feeling this may be even more of an issue for the 3/8" webbing. But one could always use short sticks under the webbing to distribute the weight, if the twisted 3/8" kevlar started biting into the bark.

Ah....I guess I wasn't clear - this will replace Mule Tape in a 1" strap PLUS Mule Tape Becket Hitch setup. I wouldn't use this tiny stuff for straps EVER~

This is thinner than most "bridge" webbing I've seen, so I think you're on to something for this application! I'll be happy if this works for people.

Oh, I see now. You did state your use for it, but I glossed over that part of the description. I think you have a good idea. These 3/8" kevlar straps should perform better in wet weather, since mule tape seems to absorb more water than kevlar. Less weight and bulk too. Thanks for sharing your find.

Thats an interesting find. I'd be curious to the durability over time. Right now I use mule tape to a tree strap for one of my hammocks. though knots seem to wear the mule tape a bit more than I would like. I have changed from using a Becket hitch to using a J-Bend knot in hopes that it would cause less wear on the rope. Not that I am short for mule tape I have about 300ft of the stuff.

Phoenix, how are you attaching the mule tape to your Hugger straps. Do you sew a loop or tie a knot to make a loop. If knotted, what knot do you use?

I tried sewing on mule tape and I gave up. I big PITA. I just used a figure 8 knot and did a larks head on the hugger.

Thanks, I'm running Whoopies but have added CR's in the same end channels just in case I run into the too close tree problem and have made up the Hugger/Mule Tape/Becket Hitch system.
