This holiday weekend saw a number of chores accomplished, a parade and thoughts of Veterans in the family long since passed. At times a bit somber, other times a celebration and for a portion some blood sweat and tears. Tears of joy!!
My brother in law stopped by to borrow the trailer and besides obliging, I was curious as to the tasks at hand. Moving a couple motorcycles and a couple hundred pounds of "industrial equipment". Whaaaaaaat?!?!?
The way it works around my place, having no thread injector of my own, is to borrow my sister's. I head over to her place, setup shop on the porch/kids play room and take care of business. Normally not much of an issue except come Thanksgiving it's off limits and that lasts through Christmas, the New Year and sometimes beyond. So, it's seems my stitching is seasonal.
Now while I'm over there, making myself at home, trying to Tom Sawyer my brother in law into stitching something up or borrowing my sister's Viking, I hear tales of the half dozen sewing machines they own, stories of industrial equipment and projects like DIY backpacks that are 20 years old. Seeing little evidence of this and being a couple years into my DIY efforts now, I've been content to use the Viking and just drool over videos of Juki's or daydream as I scan the local Craigslist for "a special deal". Last Juki I eyeballed was $800 and we didn't close a deal.
Back to the borrowing of the trailer, it seems that some heavy stuff was to be moved but I wasn't to be involved directly. This is unusual.
Fast forward to last night when I dropped by abode of my sibling, ostensibly to catch an episode of Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley, I was instructed to head out to the porch to "close the glass doors". Hmmmmmmmm
I step onto the porch and BAM !!!
Juki Goodness !!
Holy smokes !!
Look at the size of that motor !!
Flush with the table, no more over the arm sewing !!
Why did you make me wait so long to use this?
Why wasn't it moved here sooner???
"You weren't ready grasshopper"
"You can't handle the speed"
Apparently this Juki was used for making banners towed behind planes and it's geared for speed or rather the pulleys are sized for speed. I wanted to take it for an immediate test spin but apparently there is a little "fiddling" left to be done and then, then I can get my Juki on !!
Pretty psyched.
Over a sewing machine.
Never saw that coming, not in a million years, but I am.
I'm trying to squeeze a 4x8' fabric table into the deal but I think I'm pushing my luck.
Ok, now that is a motor.
