Red face Ohio Single Mom New to Hammock Camping

    Hi there!

My name's Sky and I'm from Ohio. As I mentioned in the title, I'm a single mom. But I don't mention it because this is cheaper than Match.com, I mention it because I have a feeling I will often find myself either solo camping or camping with just my son, so I'm kind of hoping to meet folks on here that are also solo campers or campers with older (10-17 range) kids. I'm also hoping to learn more about camping and hammock camping, since my experiences tend to all revolve around "tent sites with electric." I'd love to have to confidence one day to go backcountry camping, though I doubt I'd do that solo or with my son my first few times since I'm a newbie at this.

Anyhow, I look forward to getting to know folks and to hammock camping! Nice to meet you!

Side Note: I have a Mammoth Cave trip coming up June 10-12. I'm camping both days, doing the Wild Cave Tour on Saturday, and hiking or biking (or swinging in the hammock reading a book) the rest of the time. If anyone from the forums is going to be there then, I'd love to meet you!

    Thanks!

Welcome to the Hammock forums. I have to admit when I read the title of this thread that this was a spam message Bummer your not going this weekend as there's a big hang this coming weekend at Mammoth Cave:

You will love the wild cave tour. An excellent choice to do in the hot summer months as it some of the best air conditioning you can get naturally. I lived grew up in Hart county and spent many many days in Mammoth. Wait till this fall and watch for group hangs as they tend to pick back up in the fall and winter.

LOL! I'm goofy, and I figured it would get some attention.

I saw that! I thought about inviting myself along (I have plans Sunday, so I'd have to leave early Sunday morning). I have a dog though (a big one - German Shep), and I'm boarding him the next weekend, so cost-wise, I'd have to bring him, and I don't know if I want to have people meet me for the first time AND my dog - that's just a little too much "crazy" all at once, I think.

I hope so! I've been wanting to do it since I was 14. At 14 I was too young, then when I got older, I was too big. I've recently lost 130 pounds and can FINALLY "fit" on that tour, so I'm doing it! I'm ridiculously excited.

Welcome from exciting and exotic Battle Creek MI. Keep an eye out for group hangs in your area (if there are any) lots can be learned at those, and if you're up to a little drive the Fall Michigan Hang is well worth attending, kids welcome.
    Good luck,
